Arnao Mine Museum

The Arnao mine is one of the most important places in Spanish industrial history. It was the first coal mine exploited in the Iberian Peninsula since 1593 and the space in which the oldest railway in Spain was built. It has an exceptional wooden castle from the 19th century, one of the few that survives and the oldest in Asturian coal mining. It is also the only underwater mine on the European continent.
At the Arnao Mine Museum you can learn about the fascinating history of the first coal miners, enjoy its privileged location next to the sea, descend through the mine’s original castle and well and walk inside the cliff, through the galleries in which men, women and children worked during the 19th century, learning about their life and their overwhelming experience almost as if you felt in their skin.

Gauzón Castle

Gauzón Castle is one of the most important archaeological sites from the Middle Ages in northern Spain. The investigations promoted by the Castrillón town council have made it possible to identify the existence of a first fortress from the Hispano-Visigothic period dating back to the 6th-7th centuries AD. The kings of Asturias transformed the settlement, turning it into their most famous castle. Thus, during the 8th-10th centuries AD, in its period of splendor, enormous towers or a palace space with a church were built. Temporary residence of the monarchs and main defense of the coast against the Vikings, the Victoria Cross was made inside in the year 908. The castle was abandoned in the 14th century.

Valey: cultural center of Castrillón

Valey is a Cultural Center located in Piedras Blancas where a wide variety of artistic expressions come together.
The cultural programming offers performing arts, music, cinema, exhibitions and other manifestations of contemporary creation.
It has an Auditorium Theater, meeting rooms, Tourism and Celebrations Office, Youth Room, Playground, Digital Resources Center, Multipurpose Room and Exhibition Rooms accessible to all audiences.

Niemeyer Center

It is the only work in Spain by architect Óscar Niemeyer and he himself qualifies it as his most important and beloved work outside of Brazil.
The Niemeyer Center is an open door to all arts and cultural manifestations. Music, cinema, theatre, dance, exhibitions, gastronomy and words are the protagonists of a multidisciplinary cultural program with the only common denominator of excellence.
It was born with the desire to be a reference in cultural management in Latin America and a bridge between all its shores. For this reason, it is conceived as a magnet capable of attracting talent, knowledge and creativity, but also as an open door from Asturias to the world.
The cultural complex consists of five independent and complementary pieces: the plaza, the auditorium, the dome, the tower and the multipurpose building.

Cudillero

Also known as Villa Pixueta, it is an old town located in a completely natural environment with a great seafaring tradition. Its layout is very curious, as its houses stagger upwards forming urban terraces of bright colors. We must not downplay the beauty of its fishing port and its beautiful beaches, such as Aguilar or Silencio.
